Ushuaia, not for the checkbox. I don't show — I TELL. The old Presidio prison, the End of the World Museum, the seafront, and a couple of spots that regular tours don't go to. 2.5 hours with me — in Russian, at my own pace, with my own stories. More of a meditation with immersion into local meanings than a classical excursion.
Program

Pickup from hotel. Overview drive around the city

Old Presidio — historic prison. 1902-1947, held the heaviest criminals in Argentina. Now a museum. Cells, prisoners' stories, the steam train that took them to the logging sites

Martial viewpoint — view of the channel, city and mountains. 5-min coffee stop from the trunk [I bring my own thermos]

Questions and answers
Who runs the tour? +
Vika — that's me. Local Russian-speaking guide with years of experience working in Ushuaia. I lead individually or in small groups up to 6 people.
Is it a good intro to the city? +
Yes, it's a classic start. Ideal on day one or two, before longer excursions (national park, penguins). That way you'll understand the context of everything you see next.
Can we go on foot or do we need a car? +
Car. We drive between points, get out and walk at each one. Ushuaia is compact but hilly — on foot in 2.5 hours you won't fit it all.
Good for kids? +
Yes. Kids enjoy the prison [real cells, the steam train in the yard], the maritime museum, the Martial viewpoint. Under 5 they get tired — shorter version is better.
Can we add the national park the same day? +
Yes. City tour in the morning (10:00–12:30) + national park in the afternoon (14:00–18:00) — good combo. But that day will be very packed.

Beagle Channel + lighthouse
Half a day on a catamaran to Les Éclaireurs lighthouse and sea lion colonies. The most popular boat trip in Ushuaia — and yes, I love it too, even after a hundred times leading it. The Beagle Channel is the water that separates us from Antarctica.
Martillo Island Penguins
10 hours and three small wonders. In the morning — the Ruca Kellen chacra with raspberries and strawberries at Andrés's place; then lunch with seafood in the fishing village of Almanza; and the finale — Martillo Island. The only place in the world where you're allowed to walk between the penguins.
Laguna Esmeralda
Turquoise you don't believe in until you see it. 9 km on foot through lenga beech forest and beaver dams — and there it is, the Emerald Lagoon. I do this hike year-round and feel a bit embarrassed by my own oohs and aahs each time. But it really is wow.
